WHITEWATER REGION – The Township’s Municipal Emergency Control Group met today and yesterday afternoon to review the current situation involving COVID-19. The Control Group meets virtually on a regular basis and is comprised of Mayor Moore, Councillor Nicholson, CAO Tremblay, and senior staff.
The Province of Ontario announced a province-wide shutdown beginning December 26 at 12:01 am. The Township is taking actions to help protect the health of our community and prevent the spread of the virus.
▪ The Township Administration Office will be open during regular hours for essential services including payments, licenses and permits. Residents are encouraged to make payments online, utilize the afterhours drop box, or contact staff by email or telephone to schedule an appointment. Reminder: The Township Office is closed December 24, 25, 31 and January 1 for the holidays.
▪ The landfill at 990 Kohlsmith Road will remain open with new provincial guidelines in place. Please wear a mask and respect physical distancing. There are no anticipated impacts to curbside garbage and recycling collection activities. Regular residential curbside pick-up will continue in keeping with the usual schedule. The landfill is closed on Boxing Day (Dec. 26).
▪ Arena operations are suspended from December 24, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) until January 24, 2021 at 8:00 a.m. Outdoor rinks may open by local associations depending on weather conditions and following provincial guidelines with a limit of 10 people.
▪ The Whitewater Region Public Library will be moving to curbside pick-up. Please contact the Library for hours of operation.
▪ All municipal hall facilities and other facilities (i.e. municipal garage, fire halls, etc.) will be closed to the public.
Even though some facilities are closed to the public, all essential services continue to be offered including regular road maintenance, fire service, development permits, etc. Please contact staff by phone or email. Contact information can be found on the Township’s website.
The Township strongly encourages our residents to continue taking every precaution in protecting themselves by following the guidance and protocols of our local experts in Public Health – wear a mask, limit your contacts, wash your hands, and maintain physical distancing, and avoid travel.
If you live in Renfrew County and District, have a health concern (including a concern related to COVID-19) and need to speak to a physician, you should first call your family physician’s office. If you do not have a family physician or cannot access your family physician, call the Renfrew County Virtual Triage and Assessment Centre (RC VTAC) at 1-844-727-6404.
Call Renfrew County & District Health Unit staff at 613-732-3629, Ext. 977, 7-days a week, Monday to Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for more information on COVID-19. The office will be closed to the public on weekends and holidays. You do not require a phone assessment by RCDHU to access COVID-19 care.
