WHITEWATER REGION — The rain pelted down. The thunder rumbled. And the lightening flashed. All within a few minutes on Monday, July 2.
Following the few minutes of a torrential downpour and thunderstorm, power was out for 160,000 Ontario Hydro One customers following 510 different power outages, said Tiziana Baccega Rosa, media relations with the company.
While some people in Whitewater Region, specifically the La Passe area, were without power for 21 hours, there were others who were only out a few hours.
Ms. Baccega Rosa said it’s difficult to say why power was out for the length of time it was in any area. The storm that raged throughout much of Ontario caused wires to be snapped off poles and falling trees taking out the wires.
“Crews were working as fast as they could,” she said, adding, ““Twenty-one hours isn’t too bad. Some people can be out for days.”
