Renfrew County Regional Science Fair Returns for First In-Person Fair in 4 years

After a long wait due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Renfrew County Regional Science Fair returned to the Petawawa Civic Centre on April 1 for the first time since 2019, with 41 of the top science fair projects in Renfrew County competing!

Students from across the county set up projects, being judged by experts from Canadian Nuclear Laboratories.

Then, the students enjoyed an afternoon of interactive activities with Let’s Talk Science! and Professional
Engineers Ontario before an awards ceremony closed out the day.

The Canadian Nuclear Laboratories Grand Prize winners, who won a fully paid trip to the Canada Wide
Science Fair, held in Edmonton, Alberta from May 14 to May 20, are:

Mark Wendland from Mackenzie Community School with “Tank vs AI Tanks Computer Game”;

Jordyn Scantland Proulx from Valour School with “The power of Lysol wipes”, Maggie Alexander from Valour with “Who’s Cell Phone Is The Grossest?”;

and Valour’s Logan Lynde with “Learning to Fly”.

The Renfrew County District School Board Grand Prize Best Grade 5 and 6 Winners were: Eva Charette from
Jean-Lajoie with “Taller: Why we’re taller in space” and Caitlyn Wolfe from Mackenzie Community School with “Pump Up the Music!”

Divisional awards were presented by Mayor Sue D’Eon of Deep River, Mayor Ron Gervais of Pembroke, SRB Technologies, the Petawawa Legion and Ontario Power Generation.

Special Awards were presented by
Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and
Technologists, Ontario Power Generation, the Petawawa Legion, the Canadian Nuclear Society and the Chalk River Professional Employee’s Group.

The Renfrew County Regional Science Fair is held every April and is open to all Renfrew County students from Grade 5 to 12.

No prior entry into a school fair is required and it is never too early to start your project.
