The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 177 calls for service during the past week.
Domestic Violence
Arnprior and Renfrew officers investigated five domestic disputes during the past week. One female was charged with assault, mischief and being unlawfully in a dwelling; one female was charged with assault; and one female was charged with operating a motor vehicle over 80mgs. No other criminal offences took place.
Break and Enter
Police are investigating a break and enter on Red Pine Road in the Township of Whitewater Region. Officers responded on Thursday, January 11. There were no signs of forced entry, and nothing appears to have been stolen. PC Mark Yarmel is investigating.
On Thursday, January 11 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., a home on Tierney Street S in Arnprior was entered. There was no sign of forced entry. A Lenovo laptop computer and a quantity of American currency were stolen. PC Kyle Brown is investigating.
Thefts
A quick change scammer was successful recently at a business in Renfrew. The suspect attended a business, purchased a small item and attempted to pay with large bills. The suspect then asked the employee to make change for other large denominations and confused the employee. The suspect left the business and the employee then realized they were missing approximately $210. There is video surveillance available and PC Amadeo Jean-Louis is continuing to investigate.
PC Yarmel is investigating a reported theft from a resident at Chartwell Quail Creek Retirement Residence. The victim contacted the OPP on Wednesday, January 10 to report a collection of old currency including $1 and $2 bills had been stolen from their room. There was no sign of forced entry and the investigation is continuing.
Overnight on Thursday, January 11, a gym bag was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in a driveway on Calabogie Road in the Township of Greater Madawaska. The Nike gym bag contained Adidas running shoes, an IPOD SHUFFLE, a set of Sony headphones, and a Pandora bracelet with about 10 charms on it. There are currently no suspects.
On Thursdaym January 11 OPP attended Rick’s Pet Store in Renfrew for a theft investigation. Two suspects attended the store and stole a product. The suspects were known to the staff. The store owner decided not to press charges but to issue a trespass notice to the suspects.
On Saturday, January 13, PC Patrick O’Connor attended a shoplifting call at No Frills in Renfrew. Store security had a male in custody. At the manager’s request the male suspect was charged under the Trespass To Property Act with engaging in a prohibited activity. Ronald O’Brien, age 81 of Renfrew, was given a ticket for the offence.
Mischief
On Thursday, January 11 at approximately 2:30 a.m., a car window was smashed in Arnprior. The car was parked on Landrigan Street at the time. There is no suspect.
Fraud
On Friday, January 12 a landlord in Arnprior advised that they had posted an apartment for rent on a buy and sell website and that someone was pretending to be them and trying to get deposit money from people. The complainant wasn’t sure who the person was but advised they were taking the ad down. There are no suspects.
