Domestic Violence
Arnprior and Renfrew officers investigated six domestic disputes during the past week. One male was charged with 2 counts of overcoming resistance by choking and 2 counts of assault. One investigation is ongoing while no criminal offences took place in the remaining four cases.
Threats
One male was arrested and charged after a dispute between individuals led to the accused posting threats to a family online. The victim reported the first incident to the OPP on December 20, 2017 and the suspect was warned to stop. The online threats continued and the victim reported to the OPP on January 4 that they felt the threats were fearful the suspect would carry out the threat. The male was arrested and held for a bail hearing on January 7. Charged with 4 counts of uttering threats and 4 counts of criminal harassment is Steven Tysick, age 58, of Laurentian Valley Township. Provincial Constable (PC) Tamara Dube led the investigation.
Sexual Assault
Officers investigated a sexual assault report when a victim called police on Sunday January 7 in Arnprior. The female victim reported a male known to her, sexually assaulted her. Following interviews and collection of evidence police arrested the male suspect on January 8. Charged with sexual assault is George Ayoub, age 61, of Gatineau. He was held in custody for a bail hearing on January 9. Detective Constable Wendy Saunders is leading the investigation.
Thefts
On January 3 PC Patrick O’Connor investigated a theft from a home on Stewartville Road in the Township of McNab Braeside. The victim reported cash and other items stolen from the home, and video evidence of a family friend stealing the items. When confronted concerning the theft the suspect returned the cash but denied stealing other items. The OPP began their investigation and then stopped when the victim decided they would deal with the theft without police involvement.
RIDE Spot Checks
Arnprior and Renfrew OPP officers conducted 19 RIDE spot checks during the past week. No impaired drivers were located. Motorists are encouraged to continue to make wise choices and always drive sober. Motorists should also continue to expect to encounter officers conducting RIDE spot checks. Should you suspect a motorist is driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol call 9-1-1.
Mischief
A window was broken at a property on Carswell Street in Renfrew. The damage was discovered on Saturday, January 6 at approximately 9 a.m. The damage occurred between January 4 and 6. There is a suspect and PC Kyle Mask is continuing to investigate.
Assault
Police are investigating after a nurse at the Bonnechere Manor reported one resident suffered injuries and they may have been assaulted by another resident on Monday, January 1 at approximately 10:20 p.m. The victim was transported to hospital by paramedics. The investigation is continuing with assistance from the OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and the Renfrew County Crime Unit. PC Marc Bennett is leading the investigation.
