Renfrew OPP respond to 237 calls

RENFREW — The Renfrew Detachment of the OPP investigated 237 calls for service during the previous week.

Domestic Disputes
OPP officers responded to 13 domestic disputes during the past week in the Renfrew Detachment area. One male was charged with assault, and one male was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80mgs. Sexual Assault
Charges were laid after police investigated a sexual assault complaint in Arnprior. A parent contacted the OPP on Sunday, July 3 to report their young teenaged daughter is in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male. The male suspect had also assaulted a brother of the victim. Following an investigation, the suspect was arrested and charged with sexual interference with a young person under 16, sexual assault on a person under 16, and assault. He cannot be identified under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He was released on a promise to appear in Youth Court at a later date. Provincial Constable Sarah Turcotte led the investigation.

Break and Enter
A residence on Southside Way in Greater Madawaska Township was broken into during the early morning hours on Saturday, July 2. Police responded to the residence at 12:30 a.m. Two male suspects were seen by the homeowner running away. It is not known if anything was stolen from the home, but some change was stolen from an unlocked vehicle. No arrests were made. Provincial Constable Sarah Turcotte is investigating.

Mischief
OPP officers are investigating after damage was done at the ball diamonds in Cobden. The light box controlling the outdoor lights was damaged and a port-a-potty was overturned overnight on Tuesday, June 26. Anyone observing suspicious activity on or near the fairgrounds in Cobden is asked to call the OPP immediately at 1-888-310-1122.

Fraud
Five fraud attempts were reported to the Renfrew OPP during the past week. One victim provided a credit card number to the fraudster who claimed they would unlock the victim’s computer. One male uttered a forged document when he passed an altered cheque. The victim provided cash to the suspect not realizing the cheque was not valid. No funds were obtained in the other cases.
