Festive R.I.D.E.
The OPP works all year to keep Ontario roads safe from impaired drivers, and is making it a particular focus during the Festive RIDE campaign that will run November 23 to January 2, 2020. The initiative aims at taking drug and alcohol impaired drivers off the roadways. The Renfrew OPP Detachment will be participating in the initiative. Citizens can expect to see Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checks set up across the detachment areas. As a result of recent changes in impaired driving laws, a police officer who has made a lawful traffic stop or stopped a driver in a RIDE initiative and, who has in their possession an approved screening device, can now make a demand for a roadside breath sample without having reasonable suspicion that the driver has alcohol in their body.
