The Renfrew Detachment of the OPP investigated 294 calls for service between Monday July 2 and Sunday July 8.\
Domestic Violence
Arnprior and Renfrew officers investigated 16 domestic disputes during the past week. One male was charged with three counts of assault. No other criminal offences were alleged. Break and Enter
Police responded to six separate break and enter investigations, all in the Town of Renfrew. All are believed to have been daytime break-ins, where either a door was forced, window broken or spare key found and used to enter the homes. Stolen property includes cash, jewelry, an HP laptop computer, a PlayStation 4 slim and 4 controllers, several PlayStation games, a Samsung tablet, one Netherlands 10 guilder coin and a bottle of St. Remy brand brandy.
Thefts
Charges are pending after a 15-year-old male took a relative’s vehicle and drove it on Flat Road in the Township of Greater Madawaska. The teen crashed the vehicle into the ditch and abandoned the scene. Police were notified when a motorist saw the abandoned vehicle. PC Dave Peace is leading the investigation.
Impaired Driver
On Monday, July 2 at approximately 1:41 a.m., Provincial Constable (PC) Mark Yarmel stopped a vehicle on New Street in Renfrew for a traffic offence. The male driver had been drinking and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. Following further breath tests Bradley Gutz, aged 25 of Horton Township, was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80mgs. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on Wednesday, August 1.
On Saturday, July 7 at approximately 10:4 0p.m., officers were conducting RIDE spot checks in the Village of Burnstown when they stopped a male driver who had been drinking. The male failed a roadside alcohol screening test and was arrested. Following further breath tests at the detachment Richard Haaima, aged 53 of Greater Madawaska Township, was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80mgs. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on Wednesday, August 1. PC Kyle Brown led the investigation.
Mischief
Four tires on a pick-up truck were damaged in a private driveway on Nadobny Lane, Renfrew. The damage was discovered on Friday, July 6. PC Dave Peace is investigating.
Also on that date, OPP officers responded to a report of damage to a large window of the community building at the White Lake baseball diamond. The window was triple pane glass, and two of the three panes were broken. No entry was gained. PC Joel Cobb is investigating.
