The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 264 calls for service during the past week.
Domestic Violence
Arnprior and Renfrew officers investigated eight domestic disputes during the past week. One male was charged with assault, and another male was charged with three counts of domestic mischief. No other criminal offences occurred.
Break and Enter
On Monday, April 3 Provincial Constable Amanda Carruthers began an investigation after a resident reported a break and enter to their apartment in Renfrew. The apartment was in a secure building located on Plaunt Street South. There was damage done inside the residence and a suspect has been identified. The investigation is continuing.
On Tuesday, April 4, the owner of a cottage on Dewar Avenue in McNab Braeside reported a break-in. The break-in happened sometime in the previous month, and it appeared the cottage had been slept in. Damage was done but nothing appears to have been stolen. Physical evidence was seized, and PC Mark O’Dacre is investigating.
On Sunday, April 9, a resident of an apartment reported a break, enter and theft. PC Troy Dobbie is leading the investigation into the break-in at a building on Raglan Street South in Renfrew between March 29 and April 9. A Playstation 4, an ipad and a quantity of cash were stolen. The investigation is continuing.
Thefts
PC Troy Dobbie responded to Walmart in Renfrew on Friday, April 7 when store security reported a theft. Police responded and arrested a female suspect outside the store and recovered a cart with stolen merchandise.
Sarah Pozirekides, 28 of Petawawa, was charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime. She was released on an appearance notice for court in Renfrew on Wednesday, May 31.
OPP officers investigated thefts of fuel, items from locked vehicles, and a computer. The investigations are continuing.
Motorists are reminded to remove valuables and lock your vehicle to prevent thefts. Each year in the spring and summer police respond to increased calls for thefts from unlocked vehicles. Remove your valuables so thieves will not target you. Lock your vehicle anytime it is not in use. Remember – Lock it or Lose it.
Mischief
Police investigated several reported mischiefs this past week including two mailboxes removed from private residences and abandoned a short distance away (Halliday Creek Rd in Greater Madawaska and Fraser Rd in Horton), a group of mailboxes damaged at Pack Way Rd in McNab Braeside, and a car damaged, unknown where.
Fraud
The OPP have been notified of a Scratch and Win scam currently ongoing in Arnprior. Residents are reporting receiving scratch and win cards in the mail. All cards are winners and you are then instructed to call a 1-800 number. Callers then receive an aggressive sales pitch for water filtration systems and are told the town’s water supply is not safe.
