RENFREW COUNTY (Renfrew) — The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 285 calls for service.
Domestic Violence
Arnprior and Renfrew officers investigated 9 domestic disputes during the past week.
- One accused was charged with mischief, utter threats and four counts of assault,
- One accused was charged with two counts of assault,
- One accused was charged with mischief.

Impaired Driving
On August 5, 2019 officers from the Renfrew OPP Detachment responded to a traffic complaint in Admaston/Bromley Township. As a result of the investigation Joseph Madigan, 51 years old, of Greater Madawaska Township has been charged with, impaired driving, operating a motor vehicle with over 80mg of alcohol and possession of a schedule one substance believed to be cocaine. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear to attend at the Ontario Court of Justice in Renfrew on August 21, 2019,
On August 10, 2019 officers from the Renfrew OPP Detachment responded to a traffic complaint in the Town of Arnprior. As a result of the investigation Samantha BAYLY, 37 years old, of Ottawa has been charged with impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle with over 80mg of alcohol. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear to attend at the Ontario Court of Justice in Renfrew on September 4, 2019.
Assault
On August 10, 2019 officers with the Renfrew OPP Detachment responded to an assault call on Vandusen Drive in the Town of Arnprior. As a result of an investigation Brady LECKIE, 20 years old of Greater Madawaska Township has been charged with assault. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear to attend at the Ontario Court of Justice in Renfrew on September 4, 2019.
Break and Enter
On August 7, 2019 officers with the Renfrew OPP Detachment responded to a break and enter occurrence in McNab/Braeside Township. As a result of an investigation Michael KOCH, 23 years old of Arnprior has been charged with break and enter, theft under $5000.00, two counts of fail to comply with probation order and two counts of fail to comply recognizance. The accused was held for a bail hearing on August 8, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
Bail Violations
On August 11, 2019 officers with the Renfrew OPP Detachment were conducting traffic enforcement in the Town of Arnprior. As a result of a traffic stop Claude LaFleur, 48 years old of Ladysmith, Quebec has been charged with operate motor vehicle while prohibited, three counts of fail to comply with recognizance and two counts of fail to comply with undertaking given by officer in charge. The accused was held for a bail hearing on August 12, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
On August 11, 2019 officers with the Renfrew OPP Detachment responded to a dispute call in the Town of Arnprior. As a result of an investigation Joshua Gourlay, 35 years old of the Town of Arnprior has been charged with fail to comply with recognizance and two counts of fail to comply with probation order. The accused was held for a bail hearing on August 12, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
Fraud Awareness
On August 31, 2019 an officer with the Renfrew OPP Detachment responded to a fraud call in Admaston/Bromley Township.
A resident received a phone call from an unknown male who claimed to be a lawyer. The caller told the victim that her son had been involved in a motor vehicle collision and was being held in custody. The caller advised the victim to immediately send funds in order for her son to be released.
The victim was instructed to attend to their bank and withdraw $5,000 and then deposit the money into another account to facilitate the release.
The victim later made contact with their son who indicated he was not in trouble and they contacted OPP to report the scam.
If anyone should receive a call in this manner, please contact your immediate family and inquire if anyone is in need of assistance. These types of calls play on a person’s emotions and create a sense of urgency which then creates distress to the recipient. Keep calm and DO NOT forward any funds without speaking to family members first.
The OPP are reminding residents to be extremely vigilant and to be alert for unsolicited calls, emails or visitors that arrive at your residence.
Scammers can have personal information about you before they ever try to contact you. It is imperative to verify any unsolicited contact BEFORE you respond and provide information.
