Ross Museum Closed

Due to the impact of Covid, the Executive of the Whitewater Historical Society made the decision to close the museum this year. In the past years, students would have been hired and the displays would have been set up by the month of May. However, when the Council of Whitewater Region closed all Municipally owned buildings to follow the guidelines and restrictions imposed by the RCDHU and the Ontario Government it was not possible to prepare for opening this summer.

Meanwhile, the collection and documenting of artifacts and research projects continue thanks to volunteers. Ross Museum gardens are beautiful as Volunteer Gardener, Joanne Pratt continues to keep them cleaned and weeded. She also prepared our annual Plant sale on June 12th, supporting the museum and providing a budget for the garden costs. A visit to the Heritage Garden provides a quiet place to have a picnic by the stream with picnic tables set up so one can appreciate the many plants that are attracting bees, butterflies, and birds.

Volunteers are still needed. Archivist, Fay Bennett has a research project ongoing to catalogue all WW1 and WW2 veterans who served from the region and could use some help. If you enjoy history and research, please contact Fay at [email protected]

If you enjoy gardening Joanne could use some help in the gardens and you can contact her at 613 646 7634
To support the ongoing work of the Whitewater Historical Society, contact our Secretary Janis Tomkinson at [email protected] Memberships are still only $10.00 for a single and $15.00 for a family so please join. Your memberships help to support our society’s work at a time when we are unable to hold fundraising events, Donations over $20.00 will receive a taxable receipt.
