Not only the patients are well cared for at Renfrew Victoria Hospital, so are the grounds.
The latest addition to the landscape is the RVH Foundation’s beautiful Legacy Circle in the Healing Garden.
The Healing Garden provides an oasis where patients, visitors, staff and physicians alike can enjoy the tranquility of nature just steps from the hospital doors.
The new Legacy Circle, placed prominently in the Healing Garden, provides a way to honour those who left a gift to the hospital in their estate plans.
“A plaque for each legacy donor going back as far as the Foundation’s records has been placed on the stones and we’ll continue going forward,” explains RVHF Executive Director Patti Dillabough at the unveiling on August 17.
The Foundation’s Legacy / Planned Giving Program was launched at the same time, including a comprehensive information package outlining opportunities and providing samples and forms for those who assist with Wills/estate planning.
Dillabough notes that the landscaping and planting projects at RVH were completed with some very significant local support.
Farrell’s Landscaping donated some of their labour for the stone work in the Healing Garden as well as the planters outside the Oncology and Dialysis Unit windows for patients to enjoy during treatments.
“I grew up here. It’s is a way of giving back to my community,” says Patrick Farrell.
Milliken Landscaping Garden Centre designed, planted and donated all the flowers throughout the grounds, a mix of colourful annuals and perennials.
“We were happy to do this for the town, and for the patients going through difficult times,”
says John Milliken.
“We truly appreciate all their work,” says Dillabough. “Everything looks gorgeous and we hope it will help give a sense of peace and wellbeing to those who visit or work at the hospital.”
Bromley Farm Supply in Douglas is donating a watering system to help with the care of the gardens, which are currently watered daily by Foundation team member Steve Lyons.
“I take pride in looking after the gardens that have such a positive impact on our patients,” Lyons said.
“We’re grateful for all the hard work the RVH Foundation has put into creating these gardens and the generous support from our community. Our hospital truly stands out not only for the care it provides, but also for its surroundings. It’s wonderful for our patients and staff and something we can be very proud of,” states Julia Boudreau, RVH President and CEO.
