Scott Hamilton of Douglas is the Algonquin College Hospitality and Tourism Program recipient of the Henk Hymans Award. “I feel humbled and honoured,” Mr. Hamilton said. “The traits associated with the award are things I strive towards in my life. I am very appreciative to be recognized for those traits.” The traits he refers to are demonstrating professional promise, having the ability to communicate well and relating to others and having strong organizational and leadership skills. Making the presentation to Mr. Hamilton during the recent awards ceremony were, from left, Michael Tarnowski, Elizabeth Hymans, Mr. Hamilton, Wendy Wood and Ameet Tyrewala. This award was created in 1992 in memory of the late Henk Hymans. Mr. Hymans emigrated to Canada from the Netherlands in 1956 and rose through the ranks in the hospitality industry to become the Director of Sales and Marketing at the Chateau Laurier in 1969. He was also involved with the Ottawa Congress Centre, The Westin and Les Suites. Mr. Hymans passed away from cancer in 1991 and thanks to the collective efforts of friends and family this fund was created. This award is presented to a returning third-year student who has completed four levels of the program. Mr. Hamilton is the son of Lorraine and Brian Hamilton who reside on the Barr Line.                                                   Photo submitted
