RENFREW COUNTY (Laurentian Valley TWP) — On April 4 at approximately 9:30 p.m., members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) collision on Doran Road in Laurentian Valley Township (LVTP).

The ATV left the roadway and the driver, a 37 year old from Pembroke, was ejected from the ATV. The driver sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital by land ambulance and later air-lifted to an Ottawa area hospital. Alcohol has not been ruled out as a contributing factor in the collision at this time. The investigation is on-going and OPP Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) members are assisting.

While at the scene, officers utilized a Roadside Screening Device (RSD) on a second ATV driver. That person was transported to the detachment for further testing. As a result Lee Gordon Calder, age 37 of LVTP, has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences: operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg; and operation while impaired – alcohol. The accused had their license suspended for 90 days and their ATV was impounded for seven days. The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear on June 9 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.

A third ATV driver at the scene registered in the warn range on a RSD and had their license suspended for three days.
