COBDEN — The water and sewer budgets for Whitewater Region were approved by council at last week’s council meeting.
Cobden water users will not have a rate increase, but there will be a rate increase for the sewer users.
Sewer rates for Cobden increased 35 per cent. The quarterly rates for Cobden residential is now $169.83. Last year it was $119.81.
The current water rates for Cobden, ranging from $160.04 up to $320.08 will remain the same.
Beachburg water users will see an 18.51 per cent rate increase while Haley Townsite water users will see a 33.5 per cent rate increase.
The Beachburg rates of $133.14 to $266.28 will increase to $157.79 to $315.59.
The Haley rate of $326.02/quarter will increase to $435.24/quarter.
It must be noted, to keep the Haley water rate increase as low as possible, the three per cent share of the 2014 overall water surplus for Haley’s will go towards offsetting that increase in the amount of $277.56, the full Cobden surplus of $26,193 will be usd to offset the high rate increase and the 49 per cent of the Cobden share of the 2014 overall water surplus in the amount of $4,533.48 will also go towards decreasing the Haley increase.
If Haley Townsite water users received no financial help, there would have been an incease of about 103 per cent.
