WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — The Christmas Kindness Project was a success.
For the past six weeks, participants in the Bonnechere Manor Senior Adult Cobden Day Program have been working on a project as a way of showing kindness and wishing everyone Merry Christmas, said recreation programmer Brenda Robson.
“After much discussion about all the negativity in the world news today, they wanted to show some good news and spread kindness,” she explained. “They decided to make home made ornaments out of candy canes to hand out around the community to show kindness and wish Merry Christmas from their program.”
On the first Monday of each month, the program participants have been attending a free lunch of homemade soup, sandwiches and dessert hosted by the parishioners of Grace United Church. On Monday Dec, 4, they attended the lunch as per usual, but had a secret.
Once lunch was finished, and the entertainment completed, some of the ornaments were handed out. The guests at the lunch were happy to receive them.
On Tuesday Dec. 12, participants Rita Dioette and Kathy Cooke and Ms. Robson braved the snowy day and walked downtown to hand out their ornaments to local businesses.
“As we walked, I heard Rita and Kathy exclaim several times how much they loved doing this, and to see the smiles on all the clients and the recipients as they were received was very rewarding,” Ms. Robson said.
The participants are already looking forward to next Christmas when they can do it again.
