WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — On July 17, the Council of the Township of Whitewater Region passed a motion for Sturgeon Mountain Rd., from Zion Line to Beachburg Rd., be kept as a double surface treated road for the time being with the placement of large corrective cold mix patching in 2019 at an estimated cost of $7 thousand.

At the meeting of Council on May 29, a report was considered to return three road sections to gravel due to their deteriorated condition. Residents of Sturgeon Mountain Rd. approached Township staff to determine alternatives.

Discussed was how the road includes a hill and is subject to significant farm and commercial truck traffic. This is due to the lack of proper turning radius for large vehicles at the corner of Zion Line and Beachburg Rd., which makes Sturgeon Mountain Rd. a cut thru.

According to documentation provided by the Township, the cost of the corrective patching is estimated to be $7 thousand, which will be taken from the operating budget. The earlier estimate to return the road to gravel was $3,880 and both of these costs exclude manpower.
