The Cobden Agricultural Society started off March with a very busy but successful weekend of fundraising events. On Friday, March 3 they held the Annual Leprechaun Trivia Night with a record number 28 teams participating. The hall was full of fun-loving green leprechauns who played a variety of games between rounds of trivia for prizes and team points. The team with the most points at the end of the night was “Whatchamacallits” consisting of Janet and Steve Edwards, Tim and Leanne Egan and John Sutherland.
On Saturday afternoon there was a first-ever Bid Euchre Tournament in the hall with 84 participants for 21 tables of cards. It was intense with deep concentration, but everyone enjoyed the competition and fellowship. Cake, ice cream and tea/ coffee was enjoyed at the half-time break. Many players commented about coming back again next year.
Then on Sunday, March 5, there was lively entertainment in the hall with Gail Gavan and some friends. Joining her on the stage was Mike Ryan, Brian Hebert, Peter Dawson, Carol Kennedy-Dawson, and Triple Trouble from Ottawa. The large crowd of 180 people clapped, danced and sang along to fiddling, step dancing and familiar Irish or Valley songs. Following the show was a delicious roast pork dinner with all the trimmings provided by the Ag Society which had rave reviews by the many patrons.
The Cobden Agricultural Society is very appreciative of the community support for all three events as they fundraise for improvements to the hall and prize money for the fair.
