WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — The Terry Fox Run held at Logo’s Land in Cobden is days away, being held on Sunday, September 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Participants are gearing up to raise money for cancer research and to help keep Terry Fox’s dream alive. This is year 39 for the event and Mrs. Bonnie Helferty has been organizing the walk in Cobden since 1998.

“We have raised from than $100,000 over those years,” said Mrs. Helferty. “I have attracted many of the same people every year, which I am so pleased about. They come and they visit with others and usually it is a sunny, beautiful and bright day. The trails are just awesome and will be accessible by foot, bicycle and stroller. We will also offer a BBQ, treats and water for participants.”

She said it is bittersweet, as they have lost a few walkers and participants to cancer over the years. Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope may have ended in 1980, but the spark he lit in the hearts and minds of Canadians ignited into a campaign of hope which has lasted more than three decades. Once again, hundreds of thousands of Terry Fox supporters will participate in their favourite Canadian fall tradition at one of more than 700 Terry Fox Runs from coast to coast to coast. Terry Fox had a single dream: a world without cancer.
