RENFREW COUNTY (Pembroke) — On November 19, 2019 at approximately 4:30 a.m., members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a fire in the parking lot of an apartment building on Bennett Street in the City of Pembroke. Construction debris in a utility trailer had caught fire and the fire was extinguished by the Pembroke Fire Department.

On December 26, 2019 at about 6:30 a.m., the OPP and Pembroke Fire Department responded to a blaze in a recycling shed at the same location on Bennett Street. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames. There were no injuries and damage was estimated to be approximately $20 thousand.

Police consider both of these fires to be suspicious. The investigation has found that a small, light-coloured sedan and an unknown driver were in the area during both incidents. Following the second fire, the vehicle was seen traveling along Bennett Street toward Boundary Road. Photos of the vehicle are attached.

People living in the area are asked to report any suspicious activity. While no one has been hurt in these incidents, there is a concern for public safety.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Pembroke Detachment of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP at 613-732-3332 or Pembroke/Renfrew County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or at www.valleytips.ca.
