WESTMEATH — The Westmeath & District Recreation Association (WDRA) held a Valentine’s Dinner and Dance a little early this year but this didn’t deter the romance in the air.
There were about 119 in attendance and couples kept the dance floor busy, gyrating and gliding to the well-known songs of Brian Hebert and Friends. Brian has connections in the Westmeath area and has played here for 37 years.
The dinner, prepared and served by the WDRA, was up to its typical high standards; the roast beef was tender and the chicken pieces scrumptious.
There were door prizes, a 50-50 draw and at least 10 cakes auctioned off. Mel deHaan and Brenda Grady did the auction.
On a coincidental note, Whitewater Region Mayor Hal Johnson and Dan McLeese were claiming they were both born in the same year, in the same month, on the same day and at the same time, 2 in the morning, but in different hospitals. There was no undisputed proof though, but they have been friends all their lives.
