SUDBURY — Minor hockey often gets bad press, but today I have a great story to share.
Westmeath midgets participated in the Spirit of Hockey Tournament in Sudbury this past weekend and made it through to the finals to play a team from Rouyn Noranda, Quebec.
This team went through the tournament undefeated and had won most games by a lot!
To get to the championship round, the Warriors game scores were a 3-0 win, a 2-5 loss, 5-2 win, 8-3 win and 5-3 win.
During the championship game one of their players was robbed of a beautiful goal by our goalie Malcolm Wren. After he picked himself up he skated over and congratulated the goalie on a great stop!
The Warriors managed to win the game 4-2 and the award presentation showed the excellent sportsmanship by both teams.
The teams both found a spot to have team pictures taken and as our guys went to skate off the ice the Rouyn team asked them to take a group picture, which they did very graciously!
The conveyors of the tournament commented on what a wonderful way to end the tournament.
The parents of the Rouyn team should be very proud as we are of our boys!
Warrior team members are Malcolm Wren-goalie, Kysten Sheedy, Colin Price, Tanner Bromley, Eric Cooper, Brandon McDonald, Taylor Bedard, Micheal Plazek, Mitchell Bielaski, Paul Ethier, Michael Moreau, Brendan Lipke, Cole Drapeau and Eddy Tomkinson. Rick McDonald is the coach and assistant coaches are Ted Wren and Terry Ethier. Zabrina Bielaski is the trainer and Anne Bromley is the manager.
