The Christmas Tree

The corner is ready for the prized evergreen tree
Chosen with care by the whole family
Boxes scattered about holding gems from the past
Its time to decorate the Christmas tree at last

The lights will be the first to perch upon the evergreen
Red ones blue ones the brightest you ever have seen
Waiting to spread their light throughout each limb
Lighting up a special path just for him

The boxes are opened with care and delight
As each bauble is unwrapped and nestled in the lights
Adored and admired from Christmas past
Helping to make the joy of the season last

Colourful ornaments to hang with love and care
Each one with a story of how they arrived there
From children and generations that have gone by
Treasured for the loving memories they provide

Glowing and glistening with rays of bright lights
With ornaments dancing, oh what a glorious sight
The star glowing bright, high on the top of the tree
Welcomes the Christmas season for you and for me.
