    WhitewaterNews.ca decided instead of interviewing each of the 17 municipal candidates for Whitewater Region Township, it would have residents send in questions they wanted answered.
    The mayoral and councillor candidates had 19 questions to choose from and the reeve candidates had 16 questions to answer.
    Below are the mayoral and councillor questions followed by the reeve questions. All of them had to answer the first five and then a minium of 7 (6 for the reeves) of the remaining questions.

    Mayoral and Councillor questions:

    1. less than 200 words, explain your primary reasons for your decision to seek election to Whitewater Region township council

    2. Explain the role of councillor/mayor/reeve as you understand it.

    3. Please describe your community involvement over the last four years.

    4. What skills do you feel you will bring to Whitewater Region Township council?

    5. In your view, what should be the top priorities for the council that is elected on October 27?

    6. In what ways are you prepared to promote Whitewater Region Township in order to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for our township.

    7. What is your strategy for funding road repairs and maintenance in light of the fact that the grants that once helped build and pave them aren’t available for repairs and maintenance?

    8. If elected, will you ensure that our roads department incorporates design features for roads, bridges and traffic circles that allow for the safe passage of large farm equipment?

    9.When new roads and bridges are proposed for the rural areas with farm equipment traffic, will you ensure that the farm community is consulted to ensure those proposals are sized for modern equipment?

    10. Where does agriculture fit into your economic development priorities for the municipality?

    11. It’s been 14 years since amalgamation, and yet there is still the feeling of my fire department, my recreation department, my roads, etc How will you help to get residents in this municipality feel as one and not separate.

    12. How do you feel about paved/tar and chips roads going back to gravel roads?

    13. Do you feel we need five fire halls?

    14. Would you be willing to pursue the Provincial Government to force the clean-up of Muskrat Lake?

    15. What can council do to protect lakes that are currently clean from becoming like Muskrat Lake?

    16. What is your long term vision for adventure recreation in the area? (ie Rail lines to trails)?

    17. There have been various reports regarding the high cost of what policing could be in our municipality next year. Since it is a bill that must be paid, what would you will be willing to give up in our municipality so we can have a balanced budget?

    18. The cost of operating our water and sewer plants continue to rise. How do you propose to stop this from rising, considering new pipes needed in the ground?

    19. In less than 200 words, is there anything else you would like to let the people of Whitewater Region Township know about you?

    Reeve Questions

    2. Explain the role of reeve as you understand it.

    4. What skills do you feel you will bring to Whitewater Region Township council as well as to the County?

    5. In your view, what should be the top priorities for County council?

    6. In what ways are you prepared to promote Whitewater Region Township at the County level in order to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for our township.
