WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — The adult group for The Valley’s Got a Voice, ages 19 and older, will be on stage Thursday, Aug. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
They are vying for one of three positions to go on stage at the Cobden Fair on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 27.
The two groups, ages 9 to 12 and 13 to 18, vied for the stage position last Thursday evening. It was disappointing with only two participants. However, judge Jodie Armstrong-Gagnon was able to take time and talk to the two performers, Khloe Bertrand of Haley Station and Sierra Levesque of Pembroke.
Ms. Armstrong-Gagnon, the music teacher at Opeongo High School, opted to provide comments for the two performers instead of marking them, since they were each in different age categories. The other judge, Kay O’Gorman, was pleased to sit and listen to the two singers.
The Valley’s Got a Voice committee members were disappointed that more than two singers didn’t participate, but understand it is summer and people are busy.
Following a quick discussion, it was agreed to allow those in the two categories, 12 and under and 13 to 18, to showcase their singing voices at the Aug. 3 audition, the same night as those 19 and older.
The top three from each age category will be on stage at the Sunday afternoon of the Cobden Fair. Khloe and Sierra have been guaranteed their spots already.
While it would be nice to for singers to pre-register, the committee members realize people are busy, so it’s not absolutely necessary. They are hoping for more singers in all age groups next Thursday.
“Don’t miss this opportunity to showcase your singing,” said Megan Lariviere, one of the committee members.
The auditions will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, with the doors opening at 7 p.m. for anyone who wants to listen in. Admission is by donation only, as are the coffee, tea and water.
Throughout the weekend of Cobden Fair, there will be a variety of local talent, including Guy Jamieson and friends, the Debenham Brothers, as well as Eddie and the Stingrays and a Beach Boys Tribute.
The Ralph Selle Band will be the house band during the The Valley’s Got a Voice concert on Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.
Ian Maika, who won Cobden Idol in 2005, will be performing on stage from noon to 1:15 p.m. on Sunday.
It was also agreed at the quick meeting, to have tots, 8 and under, an opportunity to showcase their singing skills on stage at the Cobden Fair without auditioning. However, they must be registered by Friday, Aug. 18. There will be a limited number of auditions, so register early, noted committee member Meredith Mulligan.
