WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — Gwen and Garry Brown are surprised they have a tomato plant that has grown taller than 14 feet.
“We have to use a ladder to pluck the top tomatoes,” Ms. Brown said.
The plant was purchased at Gerber’s Nursery near Golden Lake and it’s the first time they’ve purchased from that business.
Luckily for them, their garden was full so they decided to plant it beside the house.
“We stuck it back there with the horse radish,” Ms. Brown said, adding “And it just kept growing and growing.”
It’s now the start of October and it’s still producing tomatoes and there are more buds to on the plant, she noted.
She said the staff at Barron’s Real Estate has been treated to these delicious tomatoes almost every day.
Ms. Brown said this is the first time she has heard of a tomato plant growing so tall.
Wendy Low, an employee at Gerber’s Nursery, believes the tomato plant is a Sweet Gold, which can grow very tall.
