The Renfrew County Junior Farmers returned home square dance champs from the Sing Swing held in Greely on Saturday.
It was a day of Junior Farmer from throughout Ontario participating in various events as a fun day of competition.
Renfrew County brought home top hardware in square dancing and calling, as well as seconds and thirds in sketching, photography and baking.
“It was a good time,” said Meredith Mulligan, president of the Renfrew County Junior Farmers.
Caller John Cole was first and the square dancers who placed first were Emily Schultz, Curtis Schultz, Jamie Schultz, Meredith Mulligan, Alex Zomers, Johanna Dwyer, Tanner Bromley and Samantha Cull. Shavaun Donohue and Adrian Straathof, while they didn’t dance, were the spares.
The other four teams were from Carleton County, the University of Guelph, Kawartha Lakes and Perth County.
Ms. Mulligan noted the next Junior Farmers event is the Winter Games, which are in February in Middlesex County. Renfrew County will be competing, not only for the fun of it, but to keep the top hardware, which they brought home last year.
“The Winter Games are like a sports day,” Ms. Mulligan said.
