The Council of the Township of Whitewater Region heard a motion to approve the award of RFP No. 2021-12 to Mack Mackenzie Motors Ltd. for the purchase of a 2021 Chevrolet Equinox LS AWD at a cost of $33,180.19 including H.S.T.

“We have more half-tons than anyone else in Renfrew County. You’re sending him in a car. I don’t care what he says, it doesn’t have the clearance. He’s gonna get stuck in every construction site, they don’t clear them

“All the townships I’ve worked with use SUVs. I don’t think it’s Northern Alberta in the Tar ponds.” CAO Trembley said.”This will provide fuel economy for a good price. This will get him from point A and point B. I think this is pretty typical, to be honest.”

He also said it was no longer their responsibility to pick up dogs, which necessitated more carrying space.

Councillor McLaughlin asked if it was sufficient enough to carry the more heavy-duty equipment necessary.

“It’s a Chevy Equinox, not a Pinto.” CAO Trembley said.

Burton said that they had confirmed that any equipment used would fit in the vehicle.

Councillor Jackson commented that the inspector drove a Pontiac, a “mid-sized car”.

Councillor Nicholson asked if the model included hands-free phone capability, and asked about the depreciation policy for value.

Crozier said that the current policy was a ten-year depreciation.

The motion was carried.

The Council of the Township of Whitewater Region approved the award of tender 2021-09 to Strongco for the purchase of a 2021 Volvo SD115B at a cost of $157,524.48 inclusive of non-refundable H.S.T.

Lane Cleroux said the delivery was May 16th.

The motion was carried.

The Council of the Township of Whitewater Region approved the award of tender 2021-08 to Brandt Tractor Ltd. for the purchase of a 2021 John Deere 770GP at a cost of $376,277.95 inclusive of non-refundable H.S.T.

Cleroux said the grader would replace the old 1987 grader, and will lead to the Township having three graders.

He said a brushhead would be purchased separately.

Motion was carried.

That Council of the Township of Whitewater Region approve the award of tender 2021-07 to Francis Canada Truck Centre Inc. for the purchase of a 2022 Freightliner 114 SD at a cost of $298,156.80 inclusive of non-refundable H.S.T., to replace the old Tandem that has reached its end-of-life.

“We’ve been told there’s a large shortage in trucks” Cleroux said. “And this is the last truck they’ve held for us.”

He said the truck will be fitted in May 2022.

Reeve Regier suggested that there was a deadline to ensure there were no delays, due to the ‘way of the world’.

Mayor Moore suggested that they have a deadline of January 30th

“We should know by september.” Lane said.

Councillor Nicholson asked about the bids, and noted that one is local, and asked what the reason was for excluding the local company..

Cleroux said that they went to the local company to see their timeline, and saw it was ‘the same’, and chose to go with the ‘lowest tender’.

He said this would be the 5th freight liner.

Mayor Moore also suggested ‘reputation’ was a factor, to which CAO Trembley said the lowest bid must be taken.

Councillor Jackson asked about a comment about ‘reputation’ the mayor made, asking him to ‘keep those comments to themself.”

The Mayor conceded, referring to it as ‘a slip of the tongue’.

Lane Cleroux said they’ve used the local company before.

The motion was carried.
