Traffic stop leads to recovery of stolen vehicle

PEMBROKE — On the evening of Sunday, July 29, officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP conducted a traffic stop of a stolen passenger vehicle on Lea Street in the City of Pembroke.  Police had previously received a driving complaint regarding the stolen vehicle which had been reported stolen from the Hamilton area. Two adult female occupants of the stolen vehicle were arrested and taken into custody.

As a result, 39-year-old Stephanie Burgess of Pembroke has been charged with the following Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and Criminal Code (CC) offences:

  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance – cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance – fentanyl
  • Fail to comply with probation – two counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

36-year-old Kerrie Lynn Buker, of no fixed address, is charged with the following CC offences:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Fail to comply with probation
  • Possession of a weapon contrary to prohibition order – two counts

Both females were held for a bail hearing on July 30. They remain in custody until their next scheduled appearance by video at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on August 3.
