Gallant attends all candidates meeting last night
WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — The controversial all candidates meetings were held in the Whitewater Region areas of Westmeath and Cobden. In Cobden, the meeting took place at the Agricultural Hall last night and was held for those running for federal election in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke.
The moderator was Donna Campbell, who has also been organizing this event for 32 years with volunteers from the Renfrew Federation of Agriculture. In attendance was Cheryl Gallant of the Conservative Party, Independent Dheerendra Kumar, David Ainsworth of the People’s Party of Canada, Libertarian Stefan Klietsch, Independent Jonathan Davis and New Democratic Party nominee Eileen Jones-Whyte. Mayor Moore was also in attendance but kept towards the back of the room.
The meeting lasted for almost two hours and began with constituents writing their questions on paper and submitting them to volunteers at the front of the room. Each candidate answered the questions based on their platforms and the controversy surrounding the all candidate meetings was only brought up by Mr. Klietsch once.
Making life more affordable and tackling the threat of climate change were two main themes of the evening. All of the candidates agreed that listening to voters is a priority, especially as many are not well-versed on issues and challenges facing the agri-food sector. This was admittedly so when asked about the new changes to cattle transport services.
The candidates seem eager to research the issues they’re unfamiliar with. Another all candidates meeting is on Tuesday in Deep River.
