PEMBROKE — The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP has concluded its Canada Day long weekend traffic safety campaign which took place from June 30 to July 3. OPP officers focused on speeding drivers and all other forms of aggressive driving — which include following too closely, unsafe passing and lane changes, failing to yield right-of-way, and other dangerous, high-risk driving behaviour.
Over the course of the traffic safety initiative Upper Ottawa Valley OPP officers laid several charges including 144 speeding charges, 7 hazardous moving violation charges, 6 Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act charges, 3 seatbelt charges and 1 distracted driving charge.
Officers also charged two drivers with Impaired Driving under the Criminal Code.
The 144 speeding charges laid by the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP was second amongst all OPP detachments in the OPP East Region.
