UPDATE: Renfrew OPP investigate serious assault, arrest warrant executed

(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has made a second arrest in connection with an assault which left one man with serious injuries.

On June 19, 2019 officers with the Renfrew OPP located and arrested Darren PEARCE, 34-years-old of no fixed address. The accused faces several criminal charges including:

• Attempt to commit murder contrary to section 239(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC);

• Robbery with violence contrary to section 343(a) of the CC;

• Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC (two counts);

• Aggravated assault contrary to section 268 of the CC;

• Assault with a weapon contrary to 267(a) of the CC (two counts); and with

• Fail to comply with recognizance contrary to section 145(3) of the CC (two counts).

The accused remains in custody, pending a bail hearing scheduled for June 20, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.

A suspect arrested earlier has been identified as Terrance GOODWIN, 30-years-old of Mississippi Mills. This accused has been charged with:

• Attempt to commit murder contrary to section 239(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC);

• Robbery with violence contrary to section 343(a) of the CC;

• Aggravated assault contrary to section 268 of the CC; and with

• Fail to comply with probation order contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC (two counts).

This accused is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing on June 19, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.

A 37-year old male was airlifted to hospital in Ottawa following an assault in the Town of Renfrew on June 16, 2019. The investigation remains ongoing under the direction of Detective Inspector Dave MacDonald of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
