The OPP 2018 Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign commenced on November 23, and will run until January 2,2019. During the third week of the campaign, Dec. 7 to 13, officers fromthe Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP conducted 45 RIDE checkpointsthroughout the detachment area. One driver was issued a three-day licensesuspension. No impaired driving or over 80mg charges were reported as aresult of the RIDE campaign.
Criminal Code (CC) driving charges were laid after the OPP were called to Paquette Road in Petawawa on the afternoon of December 7 after a vehicle left the roadway and came to rest in the ditch. Police responded and the driver of the vehicle was found to be under the influence of alcohol. As a result of the investigation 33-year-old Niels Peter Frandsen of Pembroke was arrested and charged with impaired driving. He was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on January 8, 2019.
In the early morning hours of December 8, police conducted a traffic stop on Albert Street in the Town of Petawawa after observing a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The driver of the vehicle was found to be under the influence of alcohol. As a result of the investigation 22-year-old Jager Cogswell of Petawawa was arrested and charged under the CC with driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in his blood. He was released on a promise to appear in relation to the CC charge and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on January 8, 2019. In addition to the CC charge he also faces charges under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA) including: Use unauthorized plates; Novice driver BAC above zero; Fail to apply for permit upon becoming owner; Owner operate motor vehicle on a highway with no insurance.
On the evening of December 13, police responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Highway 17 in Laurentian Valley Township. Police located and stopped the vehicle on Highway 17. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol. As a result of the investigation 28-year-old Kyle Condie of Pembroke was arrested and charged with the following CC offences: Impaired driving – alcohol and Driving more than 80mg of alcohol in his blood.
He was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on January 8, 2019.
