Upper Ottawa Valley OPP snowmobile patrols underway

Motorized Snow Vehicle (MSV) patrols are underway in the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment area.

Patrols were recently conducted on trails in several local municipalities and townships. During a patrol on Thursday, January 3, approximately 150 snowmobilers were checked. As a result of the patrols, police laid two charges under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act (MSVA) for fail to display registration number and drive MSV, trail permit not issued.

MSV drivers must have proof of insurance, registration, and carry a valid driver’s or MSV licence and produce it upon demand by police unless they are on their own property. MSV drivers are also reminded they require a valid 2019 trail permit to use Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) trails.

Snowmobile patrols, which include radar speed enforcement, will continue throughout the winter months in an effort to make our trails as safe as possible. Snowmobilers are reminded to obey the posted speed limits on trails and to ride safe, ride sober.
