The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP participated in Operation Impact over the Thanksgiving Long Weekend and in the Provincial Fall Seatbelt Campaign which ran from September 27 to October 6.
During the annual Fall Seatbelt Campaign officers from both the Pembroke and Petawawa OPP detachments took part in a number of initiatives to stress the importance of occupant restraint when travelling in a motor vehicle. The effort included increased focused patrol for seatbelt violations which led to 67 motorists being charged with seatbelt offences by Upper Ottawa Valley OPP officers during the campaign.
Operation Impact, which ran from October 6 to October 9 over the Thanksgiving Long Weekend, focused on the four main causal factors in motor vehicle collision deaths: distracted driving, speeding, impaired driving and lack of occupant restraint. In addition to the HTA charges, officers also laid 2 Criminal Code charges for Impaired Driving / Over 80mg during Operation Impact.
