RENFREW COUNTY (Pembroke) — The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) 2019 Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign commenced on November 23, 2019 and will continue until today. During the fifth week of the campaign from December 21 to December 27 in 2019, officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP conducted 15 RIDE checks throughout the detachment area.

On the evening of December 23, 2019 at approximately 8:30 p.m. police conducted a R.I.D.E. check on Forced Road in the City of Pembroke and a driver was found with open liquor. As a result 44 year old Yvonne DeLarge of Pembroke was charged with the following Liquor Licence Act (LLA) offence:

  • Drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor

On the evening of December 21, 2019 police conducted a traffic stop of a pickup on Petawawa Boulevard in the Town of Petawawa after received a driving complaint about the vehicle. As part of the investigation a Roadside Screening Device was utilized and the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing. Improperly stored firearms and ammunition were located in the vehicle and seized by police. As a result of this investigation 66 year old Richard St. Jean of Petawawa has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg
  • Transport firearm in a careless manner – four counts
  • Transport ammunition in a careless manner

In relation to the CC driving charges the accused had their license suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear on January 28 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
