WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — The Cobden Fair is celebrating its 159th year and this wouldn’t be possible without the support and volunteering from the community.
This year’s fair is Aug. 24, 25 and 26. There’s something for everyone – shows include heavy horses, sheep, cattle and sheep; midway; vendors and various exhibits – and all this means plenty of family fun. Advance tickets are $16 each and available at Cobden Ag Office, Scotia Bank Cobden, Rooneys Convenience Store and Pembroke M & R.
With only a few weeks left until the opening ceremonies, there is still much to be completed. In order to have the fair run smoothly, different committees operate throughout the year to ensure the necessary tasks are completed.
Examples of these committees include: entertainment, advertising, youth exhibit hall, senior exhibit hall, and sponsorship to name five out of the 23. All of these committees are run and operated by volunteers, who use their own time to ensure their part is completed
Every year at the opening ceremonies we honour the work that went into preparing for the fair. In doing this we award specially chosen members of the community with different awards, including Volunteer of the year and service diploma. The recipients of these awards have spent countless hours volunteering over the years.
Located within the agricultural hall are past presidents’ photos — after every president’s term, their photo is added to commemorate the work they have done for the fair.
With the fair approaching very shortly, many different opportunities for volunteering are available.
If anyone is interesting in volunteering at the 2018 Cobden Fair, please call or email the office at 613-646-2426 or [email protected]. This is a great way for high school students to receive their mandatory volunteer hours!
End the Summer with Flare… Come to the Cobden Fair!
