The employee wall of honour for the Township of Whitewater Region has been established.
For a few meetings, there has been discussion by the corporate services committee how to establish this wall of honour, a project of Mayor Hal Johnson. During last night’s council meeting, coun agreed to honouring long-term employees.
It was suggested that the employee who has more than 20 years service to the township apply in writing to go onto the wall, noted Chief Administrative Officer Christine FitzSimons, during one of the recent discussions.
However, Councillor Charlene Jackson noted not many employees will ask to go onto the list. She suggested when an employee reaches 20 years, he or she automatically go onto the list.
It was agreed employees of the former municipalities who amalgamated to make Whitewater Region will keep their years of service from start right through amalgamation.
Councillor Daryl McLaughlin suggested previous employees and/or their families can ask that names be added.
“Our staff doesn’t have time to search through all the papers,” he said. “We know our employees now.”
There was some concern that previous employees could be deceased, but, it was acknowledged that anyone can suggest someone be added to the list.
However, the committee agreed that before being added to the wall of honour, the family of the previous employee must have permission.
The plaque will have the employee’s name and years of service.
