Weapons charges laid after police seize firearm

RENFREW COUNTY (Pembroke) — In the early morning hours of September 18, members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an unwanted person call in the 400 block of Nelson Street in the City of Pembroke. While at the residence police located and seized a prohibited firearm belonging to the unwanted person. 

As a result of this investigation a 19-year-old Pembroke resident was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:

  • Careless storage of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Possession of a firearm knowing the serial number has been tampered with

 The accused was released on a promise to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in the City of Pembroke on October 15, 2019. The name of the accused is not being released due to a domestic dispute aspect to the investigation.
