Whitewater Kings defeated in two close games; they are at home on Saturday against the Glens

WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — The Westport Rideaus defeated the Whitewater Kings in two close games last weekend.

On home ice Saturday at the Astrolabe Arena, the Kings were edged 5-4 in regular play while the night before the Kings travelled to Westport and were defeated 7-6 in a shootout.

The Kings are at home Saturday, Oct. 20 when the Alexandria Glens come to the Astrolabe Arena for a 7:30 p.m. game. The Kings then take to the road Sunday, Oct. 21, as they travel to Williamstown for a 3:30 p.m. puck dropping against the Char-Lan Rebels.

Saturday night, the Kings were on the scoreboard in the first period in just over five minutes on a goal by Chad Moore, assists Artyom Shiman and Liam Enright. But, the Westport Rideaus responded with three unanswered goals.

In the second period, King Alex Lindecker, assist by Shiman, was on the scoreboard at the 39 second mark, but the  Rideaus responded with one, ending the period at 4-2.

And again, the Kings were on the scoreboard first in the final period, this time with a goal by Reid Barber, assist Brayden Stewart.  The Rideaus responded with another goal. And, with less than half a minute to go in the final frame, Shiman, assists to Lindecker and Stewart, closed the gap.

But, there wasn’t enough time left in the game, and the Westport Rideaus returned home with the 5-4 victory.

The Kings were in the sin bin 12 minutes while the Rideaus sat out 18 minutes.

King goalie Kevin Proulx was handed the loss stopping 32 of 37 shots on goal while Westport Rideau goalie Kaleb Griffin took the win, stopping 36 of 40 shots on goal.

King Shiman was awarded the second star, while Rideaus Anson and Kettyle were awarded first and third respectively.

In Friday’s game, the Rideaus were on the scoreboard twice before the Kings ventured onto it. It was with four minutes left in the first period of play that King Brayden Schimmens, assists to Reid Barber and Josh Hampel, lit up the Kings’ side of the scoreboard.

In the second period, again, the Rideaus scored twice, with the Kings again scoring once, two minutes into the period. King Artyom Shiman scored, assists to Chad Moore and Alec Lindecker.

In the final period of regular play, the Kings scored four times, while the Rideaus got on twice, tying the game at 6-6. Scoring for the Kings were Shiman, Liam Enright, Lindecker and Quinn Vanhoof. Assists were awarded to Lindecker, Moore, Jake Pilon and Dylan Kuehl.

There was no scoring in the first overtime.

In the shootout, Kings Lindecker, Moore and Liam Enright were not able to twang the twine for the Kings. For the Rideaus, Blake Kettyle scored for the win, followed by two who couldn’t hit the net, Michael Anson and Hugh McHugh.

The Kings scored once out of four powerplays while the Rideaus remained scoreless on three.

Kings goalie Kevin Proulx suffered the loss with a 52/58 record while Westport’s Alex Zoutis had the win with 26/32 record.

In penalty minutes, the Kings sat in the sin bin six minutes on three infractions while the Rideaus sat out eight minutes on four infractions.

King Alec Lindecker was awarded the second star while first and third went to Rideaus Blake Kettyle and Michael Anson, respectively.
