Whitewater Kings drop two games … collecting for the food bank during this Saturday’s game

WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — The Perth Blue Wings outshot and outscored the Whitewater Kings in Friday night’s game in front of just over 200 hockey fans in Perth.

The shots on goal were 43 to 28 and the final score was 5-3 for the Blue Wings.

In Saturday’s game at home in front of 165 fans at the Astrolabe Arena in Cobden, it took a shootout to determine the winner. The Canadians came out on top 3-2.

This weekend, the Kings play on home-ice at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 with a game against the Renfrew Timberwolves. It’s a special night with non-perishable food items, and cash, being collected for the Cobden Food Bank. There will also be entertainment between periods and at the end of the game in the upstairs lounge by JT and Bri.

In Saturday night’s home game, a shoot-out was needed to determine the winner and the Carleton Place Jr. Canadians came out on top 3-2.

The Whitewater Kings scored the first two goals. Alec Lindecker, assist by Artyom Shiman and Liam Enright, at 9:03 in the first period. In the second period, at the 11:52 marker, Quin Vanhoof scored unassisted.

The Canadians responded at 15:03 of the second and 5:40 in the third.

There was no scoring in the first overtime.

Five players from each team had a shot at the opposing goalie. Those who shot for the Kings were Quinn vanhoof and Dylan Kuehl, who did not score. The next two scored, Alec Lindecker and Chad Moore, followed by Artyom Shiman who did not score. Jake Code scored first for the Canadians followed by two no goals by Kyle Lightfoot and Josh Richmond. The final two shoot-outs scored, Brendan Hill and James Lister, giving the Canadians the win.

King goalie Kevin Proulx had the loss with a record of saving 31 of 33 shots on goal in regular and overtime period.  Owen Bennett and Brody Bernard shared the goalie duties for the Canadians, with the win going to Bernard. Bennett stopped 19 of 21 shots on goal while Bernard was perfect with no goals on seven shots.

The Kings sat 14 minutes in the sin box for seven infractions, while the Canadians racked up 10 minutes on five infractions.

The first and second stars of the game were awarded to Canadian players James Lister and Oliver Carriere respectively, and the #2 star awarded to King Artyom Shiman.

In Friday night’s 5-3 loss to the Perth Blue Wings, the Kings were on the scoreboard at the 34 second mark with Alec Lindecker scoring and Artyom Shiman and Reid Barer assisting.

The next four goals were by the Blue Wings, three in the first and one in the second. Shiman assisted John Enright, scored in the second period to end it.

In just over a minute into the third, King Conrad Cybulski scored with assists by Quinn Vanhoof and Dylan Kuehl. But, the Wings responded a minute later to end the scoring, this time by Mack Miller, alone.

King goalies Anthony Kervin and Kevin Proulx both saw action, but it was Proulx who took the loss. Perth’s goalies Johnathan Peacock and Nathan Cheung also shared goalie duties, but Peacock was awarded the win.

The Wings took home the first two stars, Mack Miller and Johnathan Peacock with King Artyom Shiman earning the third.

The Kings racked up 16 minutes in penalties on eight infractions, including an harassment of official to Brayden Stewart. The Perth Blue Wings sat out 38 minutes on 14 infractions, including a bench penalty and delay of game.

The Kings are now in seventh spot out of eight in the Richardson Division of the CCHL2 with five points. In first place with 10 points is the Arnprior Packers.
