The Whitewater Kings were defeated in both exhibition games played against the Renfrew Timberwolves last weekend.
The Kings were shut-out 4-0 Friday in Renfrew and then lost 5-1 on Sunday in Pembroke.
In Friday night’s game, it was a team effort as four different players hit the twine for Renfrew. They were Ryan Pettigrew, Alex Paquette, Isaac Perreault and Luka Marinic. The Timberwolves lead in shots on goal with 37 to the Kings 31.
The Kings and Timberwolves each had 29 penalty minutes on nine infractions.
Between the pipes for the Kings were Kevin Proulx and Darian McTavish. Proulx was given the loss. He was in net for 30:22 minutes and stopped 23 of 25 shots compared to McTavish’s 29:38 and saving 10 of 12 shots.
There were two goalies for the Renfrew Timberwolves. Liam White earned the win with 30:22 minutes between the pipes and stopping all 21 shots while Ethan Lapenskie had 29:38 minutes, and he too stopped all 10 shots on goal.
The lone Kings goal scorer Sunday evening was Jacob McIntyre in the first period. Scoring for Renfrew was Luka Marinic with two and singles by Andrew McIntyre, Zach Moran, and Cameron Scissons. The Timberwolves lead in shots on goal again, this time 45-41.
Kings McTavish and Proulx shared the goaltending, with McTavish taking the loss. McTavish played for 30:44 minutes with 27 shots on goal and saving 25. Proulx was in net for 29:16, with 18 shots on goal and saving 15.
Timberwolves Bennett Oxborough was the lone goalie, seeing a total of 41 shots, and stopping 40 of them.
This weekend, the Whitewater Kings play two games in the CCHL2 Showcase at the Ottawa Ritchcraft Arena. On Saturday, they play against the Ottawa Canadians and on Sunday against the Alexandria Glens.
The Whitewater Kings opening night at the Astrolabe Arena is Saturday, Sept. 16. The cost is $5 for children 12 and younger and $10 for all others.
