Whitewater Region and Pembroke men face alcohol-related charges

WHITEWATER REGION — On the evening of Sunday, June 17, members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP initiated a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint on La Passe Road in Whitewater Region Township. The driver of a motor vehicle was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

James Bruce Rathwell, aged 59 of the Towmship of Whitewater Region, was arrested and charged with driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in his blood contrary to the Criminal Code.

In the early morning hours of June 16, 2018 police were dispatched to a restaurant on Pembroke Street East in the City of Pembroke for a possible impaired driver. Officers located the vehicle in the restaurant’s parking lot and found the driver to be under the influence of alcohol.

As a result, 21-year-old Ryan Daniel Crigger of Pembroke was arrested and charged with care or control of a motor vehicle with more than 80mgs of alcohol in his blood contrary to the Criminal Code.

Both drivers had their licenses suspended for 90 days and their vehicles towed and impounded for seven days.

Both men were released on a promise to appear and both are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on Tuesday, July 17.
