Whitewater Region man facing robbery charges

WHITEWATER REGION — A Whitewater Region man is facing criminal code charges following an incident in Pembroke last week.

On the evening of Tuesday, July 24, members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of OPP responded to a report of a robbery, involving violence with an edged weapon, in the parking lot of a business on Pembroke Street East in the City of Pembroke.

The suspect, who stole property from a victim, fled prior to police arrival. Three victims, an adult female and two adult males, were identified by police.

Property belonging to a victim was damaged and threats were also made to the victims and a pet of one of the victims.

The suspect and the victims were known to each other.  The victim who was assaulted sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of this incident, 38-year-old Marty Lowell Matthews of Whitewater Region township is facing the following Criminal Code charges: Robbery with violence; Assault with a weapon; Utter threats to cause death or bodily harm – three counts; Mischief under $5,000 and Utter threats to injure/kill animal.

Mr. Matthews was arrested on July 31.
