RENFREW COUNTY (Pembroke) — The Ontario government is making another investment in small, rural and northern communities. Through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF), Ontario continues to support municipalities as they build and repair roads, bridges, water and wastewater infrastructure.

This year, Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke will receive more than $6 million across 20 municipalities to address their local community infrastructure needs.

“As your MPP, I am upholding my commitment to support our local municipalities by creating jobs, attracting economic growth and investment, and making our community the best place to live and grow, said MPP John Yakabuski. This funding will help build and repair roads, bridges, water and wastewater infrastructure in our community.”

This funding is a part of Ontario’s approximately $200 million commitment to 424 communities addressing their core infrastructure projects and asset management planning needs in 2020. Municipalities may accumulate their formula funding for up to five years to address larger infrastructure projects.

Total investment in communities across Renfrew – Nipissing – Pembroke are as follows: the Township of Greater Madawaska and the Township of Head, Clara and Maria are allocated $50 thousand each; the Town of Laurentian Hills is allocated approximately $50.1 thousand; the Township of South Algonquin is allocated approximately $51.5 thousand; the Township of McNab-Braeside is allocated approximately $55 thousand; the Township of Horton is allocated approximately $85 thousand; the Township of Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards is allocated approximately $100 thousand; the Town of Deep River is allocated approximately $141 thousand; the Township of Laurentian Valley is allocated approximately $156 thousand; the Township of Madawaska Valley is allocated approximately $177 thousand; the Township of North Algona-Wilberforce is allocated approximately $197 thousand; the Township of Whitewater Region is allocated approximately $242.6 thousand; the Township of Brundenell, Lunch and Raglan is allocated approximately $259 thousand; the Township of Bonnechere Valley is allocated approximately $267 thousand; the Township of Admaston-Bromley is allocated approximately $283 thousand; the Town of Petawawa is allocated approximately $402 thousand; the Town of Arnprior is allocated approximately $571 thousand; the City of Pembroke is allocated approximately $699.6 thousand; the Town of Renfrew is allocated approximately $842 thousand; and the County of Renfrew is allocated approximately $1.3 million. The total OCIF allocation for the Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke riding is approximately $6 million.

“This investment provides the predictable and stable infrastructure funding small, rural and northern municipalities have asked for,” said Laurie Scott, Minister of Infrastructure. “With this OCIF funding we are working directly with our municipal partners to deliver community infrastructure.”

Recognizing municipalities have different infrastructure needs, the province uses a straightforward and transparent formula that examines various social and economic factors to determine funding allocations across the province.

Ontario also provides funding to communities through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP), a $30 billion, 10 year infrastructure program cost-shared between federal, provincial and municipal governments. Ontario’s share per project will be up to 33.33 per cent, or $10.2 billion spread across four streams: Rural and Northern, Public Transit, Green, and Community, Culture and Recreation.
