COBDEN — There are only two returning council members to Whitewater Region Township council on December 3.
Returning to the table are councillors Daryl McLaughlin, who has 11 years experience and Cathy Regier, who has four years experience.
Mayor Jim Labow was defeated, as was Reeve Don Rathwell and councillors Joey Trimm and Allen Dick, in the October 27 municipal election.
Deputy-Mayor Izett McBride opted not to run in the recent municipal election. And there was no elected position for deputy-mayor as it was removed for the 2014 municipal election.
Mayor Labow was the only council member not returning who addressed council at last night’s council meeting.
It’s been a pleasure serving with the current council members the last four years, and some of them, longer than that, he said.
“Contrary to popular opinion, not everything we did was wrong,” Mayor Labow said. “We accomplished a lot we can be proud of and a lot that can be built on should the new council decide not to re-invent the wheel.
“We have a wonderful staff, dedicated, knowledgeable, for which I’m very grate ful,” he said, adding, “Your assistance has been wonderful.
“I wish you luck dealing with the new council,” Mayor Labow added. “Whether they’ll admit it or ask for it, they will need your help and I’m convinced that you will offer it.”
Mayor Labow then invited council members to join him at the Cobden Legion for an Irish Wake when the meeting was over.
