Greetings from the Women’s Institute for the District of North Renfrew. The following branch is reporting on their meeting for Jan. 2022.

Greenwood: The branch met on Zoom due to the COVID-19 restrictions. The convenors for the meeting were Irene Kumli and Elaine Hennessy. President Sheila Kenny presided.

The meeting opened with the Mary Stewart Collect. The Secretary Kathy Bennett read the minutes from the previous meeting. Gail Fletcher gave the Treasurer’s Report.

The Roll Call was “Name your favorite bird and tell why you like it”. Several species were mentioned such as Cardinals, Robins, Hummingbirds, Indigo Buntings, Painted Buntings, Chickadees, Cedar Waxwings, Barred Owls, and Chickens.

Members brought keepsakes/heirlooms and said who gave them to them and gave a bit of history about the item. Some items were wall paintings from Ireland, a ceramic boot, needlepoint picture, a bowl that was 110 years old, a sword that was over 100 years old, an autobiography book, cups and saucers, two pitchers with one being over 100 years old, a first Communion Certificate also 100 years old, teacher’s college books, a pair of salt and pepper shakers, and muffins tins.

Some members were celebrating birthdays in January, so Happy Birthday was sung to them.

The Card Secretary Carole Whitmore will be sending out a card to the Ryan Pattinson family who lost their home and all of their belongings in a house fire. The branch will offer to donate items that may be needed in the future.

The February meeting may also take place on Zoom, depending on the COVID -19 situation.
