COBDEN — Delaurier is excited.
She graduated from Opeongo High School last year and not knowing what she wanted to do, worked for a while. She looked into becoming a veterinary technician, but wanting to remain in her hometown of Cobden, didn’t believe that was a wise choice.
Ms. Delaurier now provides professional pet grooming services.
Ms. Delaurier decided her love of dogs was a great opportunity to provide a service to their owners so enrolled in Dog Port Academy and following graduation, opened Ruff Cuts by Brianna on May 19. She noted that she checked out different schools before deciding this was the perfect fit for her.
“I do what the customer wants,” said the 19-year-old entrepreneur said, noting it could be trimming toe nails or a full-blown grooming, which includes a brush out, wash, dry, and cut.
It depends on the size of the dog as to how long it can take, but Ms. Delaurier said anywhere between one-and-a-half to three hours. The fee, which depends on what’s being done and how large the dog is, can range from $40 to $150. If just toe nails are getting clipped, the fee is $10.
“You can drop your dog off, do some shopping, go out for lunch, and pick it up,” she said.
While some customers prefer to stay while their dog is getting groomed, Ms. Delaurier said it’s actually better if the owner is not there. While it’s hard to explain, she said some dogs can feel anxious while getting groomed and with just one person in the room, it’s easier to sooth them.
She enjoys her new business because along with providing a service to dog owners, she’s helping dogs feel better, whether it’s with a full shave or a groomed look.
Her mom Jody said Ms. Delaurier has a lot of patience with animals, so this is the perfect profession.
Located in space inside Cobden Auto, (100 Main St., Cobden), Ruff Cuts by Bri is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. To make an appointment, call 613-570-8201 or send an email to [email protected]
