Careless driving charge laid

NORTH ALGONA WILBEFORCE TOWNSHIP — A 72-year-old Laurentian Valley Township man has been charged following a single vehicle accident on Thursday, Sept. 27.

On that date around 2:30 p.m., members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP responded to a serious motor vehicle collision in North Algona-Wilberforce Township. The involved passenger vehicle with three occupants came to rest on its side after it left the roadway and struck a tree on Snodrifters Road.

A 66-year-old female passenger from Laurentian Valley Township (LVTP) was extricated from the vehicle by firefighters from the Bonnechere Valley Fire Department. She was flown to hospital by ORNGE Air Ambulance with serious injuries. The male driver was taken to hospital by paramedics with minor injuries. A 3-year-old female passenger was uninjured.

Following an investigation, 72-year-old driver Ronald Giroux has been charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
