The Renfrew Detachment of the OPP is interested in hearing from anyone who may have been a victim of theft where their underwear was stolen. Police have seized a number of bras and panties after a search of an accused’s home in Renfrew.
The accused was initially charged in September when a victim brought evidence to the police showing the accused breaking into their home and stealing underwear. He was charged and released on a promise to appear in court.
A second victim came forward, again providing evidence, showing the accused broke into their home and stole underwear.
A search warrant was obtained and a quantity of bras and panties were seized. Police believe this has been occurring for a number of years. If you believe you have been a victim of theft call the OPP in Renfrew at 1-888-310-1122.
The accused, John Douglas (Doug) Burwell, 61 years of age of Admaston/Bromley Township, also recently lived in Renfrew and prior to that in the Douglas area.
Mr. Burwell has been charged with two counts of break and enter and commit an indictable offence and six counts of possession of property obtained by crime.
The OPP reminds all members of the public to consider their safety at all times. Secure your home when you are away and consider installing an alarm system. Install motion sensor lights and use timers inside your home for lights and radios or TVs. For more information on SafeGuard Ontario, a property security program, go to www.opp.ca.
